Merry X'mas!

Deck the halls with boughs of Holly fa lalalala la la la....!

Last year due to my unemployment state, I had the most quiet Christmas ever. It is also the year that I gave the least presents. This year I am back in the rat race but my social circle is small which reflects my gift list.
I also decided to donate to a good cause, hence that many presents. The social club in my company has decided to organize a Christmas Tree Appeal for Woman Domestic Violence Shelter.

The campaign has been on going for weeks and yet the presents under our company tree seemed few. As such I decided I will participate as well and bought $50.00 worth of gifts for them. To my delight, on the day where the Shelter rep is here to collect the gifts, there were plenty!

The Shelter people shared a few interesting facts with us.
  • One woman is killed every week from domestic violence. This is shocking considering we are a modern country. We might be technologically advance but our society has not progressed at all.
  • Violence happens more frequent during festive season. Free flow booze no doubt.
  • It could take up to 7 times of contact before a woman decides to leave the place of violence. This shows we are most comfortable in our comfort zone even if it s a bad one.
  • Nowadays young people wanted access to Facebook and other social media when they are under shelter. Hiding still want Facebook? Really doink hearing this fact but the explanation was, they tend to want to hold on to what is familiar cause under shelter is much like a witness protection program. You will be away from all that is familiar to you.

I think domestic violence is one of the worse thing that can happen to someone. I do hope these presents will tell them that someone out there cares for them and supports them in this difficult time.

Merry X'mas to my Faithful Followers!
I will be on hiatus until after new year! Be good and see you in 2014!
